In summary, the work by Zhao et al. develops a novel strategy to construct the Fe/N−C catalyst with Fe single atoms primarily anchored within the inner curved surface of the nanoprotrusions of 2D carbon layers, which realizes remarkable ORR activity and durability in PEMFCs, outperforming most of the reported platinum group metal-free PEMFC performances. We believe that the proposed catalyst structure design strategy has great promise for promoting high-performance electrocatalysts toward broader catalytic applications.
