Improving energy density is one of the key in the high-performance lithium-ion batteries. Constructing thick electrodes with high mass loading of active material is one of the most effective and direct ways to achieve high energy density. 3D printing technology with customized construction capabilities can significantly improve the overall performance of the battery by optimizing the electrode structure in a limited volume space. This paper systematically summarizes the design of 3D printing inks, as well as the recent progress in 3D printing high-performance lithium-ion batteries. At the same time, the challenges and perspectives of 3D printing technology in the application of high-mass-loading lithium-ion batteries are comprehensively summarized, in order to provide a blueprint for the further research in this field.
