Biography

Prof. Chenglin Sun (born: 1963, Liaoning, China) began his research career in Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics since 1988. The major research field is Industrial Wastewater Treatment. Prof. Sun focuses on the research and development of industrial catalysts and wastewater treatment technologies. To date, Prof. Sun has filed over 100 patent applications, been granted 60 patents, achieved 9 appraisal-certified research accomplishments, and published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers. Prof. Sun has supervised nearly 50 postdoctoral fellows, doctoral students, and master's students.

Research Interests

  1. To develop industrial catalysis for its application

  2. To treat industrial organic wastewater

  3. Research focuses are thus placed on:

    1. Development and application of industrial catalyst and new process;

    2. Wet air catalytic oxidation of industrial wastewater;

    3. Photocatalysis and electro-photocatalysis;

    4. Biological treatment of wastewater;

    5. Combination of bio-treatment and other physic-chemical method;

    6. Electro-heterogeneous catalysis.

    Projects and honors

    Prof. Sun has led projects under the national "Eighth Five-Year Plan" and "Ninth Five-Year Plan" key research programs. Prof. Sun was one of the principal investigators for the project "Synthesis of Light Olefins (Ethylene, Propylene, etc.) from Syngas via Dimethyl Ether", which received the Special Award for Scientific and Technological Progress from the CAS in 1996, as well as the National Key Science and Technology Achievement Award during the Eighth Five-Year Plan period, jointly conferred by the State Planning Commission, the State Science and Technology Commission, and the Ministry of Finance. From 2000 to 2001, Prof. Sun led the development of a vehicle-mounted wet catalytic oxidation wastewater treatment system (0.5 ton/day), for which he received the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the State Machinery Industry in 2002. In 2002, Prof. Sun served as Principal Investigator for the National High-Tech R&D Program (863 Program) key project "Development of Catalysts and Reactors for Wet Catalytic Oxidation Technology". In 2009, Prof. Sun directed the 863 Program project "Enhanced Catalytic Oxidation Integrated Technology and Equipment". In 2015, Prof. Sun was awarded the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress by Shandong Province.
